The vivid orange fan grows on the sides and floors of warm oceans alongside tube, brain, bubble, and horn coral variants, forming the brightest coral colour in the game. Fire Coral Fan can be collected only with a tool enchanted with Silk Touch; mining it any other way drops nothing, and the block itself has a hardness of 0 and a blast resistance of 0. The coral is renewable, because applying bone meal to water in a warm ocean biome has a chance to grow new coral fans.

Fire Coral Fan dies the moment it leaves water, turning grey and transforming into a Dead Fire Coral Fan after roughly 3 to 4.95 seconds in Java Edition and instantly in Bedrock Edition, so the fan must stay submerged to stay alive. Builders use Fire Coral Fan as a flat orange accent for aquarium walls, underwater ruins, and tropical build palettes where the orange tone reads warmer than brain coral's pink or tube coral's blue. The fan sits flush against blocks and can be placed on top of solid surfaces in Java Edition, which makes Fire Coral Fan a useful decorative slab for coral-themed aquariums and warm-ocean dioramas.
