Description

Eye Armor Trim is one of the older smithing templates introduced when the armor trim system launched. Its visual motif — a circular, layered design that resembles a stylized eye — connects thematically to the Ender Eye and the journey through the Stronghold toward The End dimension. It generates in Stronghold library chests and end portal room altar chests, tying the template to the most significant late-game landmark before the final boss fight.

Like all armor trims, it applies through a smithing table using the template, an armor piece, and any compatible trim material. The selected material determines the pattern color. The template is consumed on use, so players who want it on multiple pieces should craft duplicates first by combining the original with seven diamonds and an end stone block on a crafting table. Pairing the pattern with amethyst, prismarine, or netherite materials creates visually striking results that emphasize the otherworldly eye aesthetic.

How to use the Eye Armor Trim in Minecraft

  1. 1

Find the template in a Stronghold

Locate a Stronghold and open the library bookshelf chests or the end portal room altar chest. Eye Armor Trim has no crafting recipe and only generates in these Stronghold chests.

  2. 2

Gather armor and a trim material

Bring any helmet, chestplate, leggings, or boots plus one trim material such as emerald, amethyst, or netherite ingot. The material you pick sets the color of the eye motif.

  3. 3

    Open the smithing table

Right-click a smithing table, then place the Eye Armor Trim in the template slot, the armor piece in the next slot, and the trim material in the last slot.

  4. 4

    Take the trimmed armor

Collect the decorated armor from the output slot. The Eye Armor Trim pattern is purely cosmetic and adds no extra protection or enchantment.

  5. 5

    Duplicate the template

Combine one Eye Armor Trim with seven diamonds and one End Stone block on a crafting table to make extra copies, since applying the trim consumes the original template.

Edition note

Eye Armor Trim works in both Java Edition and Bedrock Edition since version 1.20. The trim is applied at a smithing table, while duplication is done on a regular crafting table.
