Deepslate Gold Ore
Deepslate Gold Ore is the deep-cave variant of gold — concentrated near the bottom of the world with the same drops as the surface form.
Description
An iron pickaxe is the minimum required tool — anything weaker drops nothing. Mining yields one piece of raw gold, with Fortune providing bonus rolls. Raw gold smelts to gold ingots in a furnace and, less famously, also drops directly when zombified piglins are killed in the Nether. Gold's primary uses are clocks, golden tools and apples, powered rails, and trades with piglins, who barter for it on sight. Silk Touch returns the ore intact for ore-display rooms.

How to find and mine Deepslate Gold Ore in Minecraft
-
1
Go to the right Y-level
Deepslate Gold Ore generates between y=−64 and y=32. The ore is most concentrated at y=−16, so dig or descend into the deep caves or badlands canyon floors. Open the debug screen (F3) to confirm your current Y coordinate.
-
2
Bring an iron pickaxe or better
Deepslate Gold Ore requires at least an iron pickaxe to drop anything. A wooden or stone pickaxe breaks the block but yields nothing. Diamond or netherite pickaxes mine it faster.
-
3
Choose your enchantment: Fortune vs Silk Touch
Fortune III gives up to 4 raw gold per ore block, making it the best choice for gold farming. Silk Touch instead retrieves the Deepslate Gold Ore block itself, useful for decorative ore displays or deferring drops to a later Fortune pickaxe.
-
4
Smelt raw gold into ingots
Each raw gold smelts into one gold ingot in a furnace or blast furnace. Blast furnaces are twice as fast and preferred when processing large quantities.
-
5
Use gold ingots for their key crafts
Gold ingots are required for powered rails, clocks, golden apples, golden tools and armor, and piglin barter trades in the Nether. Keep a stock on hand before entering the Nether.
Fortune III can yield up to 4 raw gold from a single Deepslate Gold Ore, maximizing your gold output per block mined. Silk Touch harvests the ore block intact, letting you smelt or Fortune-mine it later — but gives no raw gold on the spot. Choose Fortune for bulk gold farming, Silk Touch for ore collection or builds.

Frequently asked questions
What Y-level is best for finding Deepslate Gold Ore?
Deepslate Gold Ore is most concentrated at y=−16, which is also where you can combine it with other valuable ores. It generates anywhere between y=−64 and y=32.
What pickaxe do I need to mine Deepslate Gold Ore?
An iron pickaxe is the minimum required to collect drops from Deepslate Gold Ore. Wood or stone pickaxes break the block but yield nothing.
What does Deepslate Gold Ore drop?
Deepslate Gold Ore drops one raw gold per block when mined without Silk Touch. Fortune III increases the yield to a maximum of 4 raw gold per block.
Can I craft Deepslate Gold Ore?
No, Deepslate Gold Ore cannot be crafted. It is a naturally generating ore found only in the deepslate layer underground. Use Silk Touch to collect the block itself.
What is the difference between Gold Ore and Deepslate Gold Ore?
Both drop the same item (raw gold) and require the same minimum tool (iron pickaxe). Deepslate Gold Ore has a dark grey deepslate texture, is harder to mine (slightly more durable), and generates below y=0 in the deepslate layer, while regular Gold Ore generates in the upper stone layers.
Does Deepslate Gold Ore generate in all biomes?
Deepslate Gold Ore generates in all biomes at standard rates. In badlands biomes, gold ore (and its deepslate variant) generates at much higher rates all the way up to y=256, making badlands the best biome for gold farming.
