Description

Dark Oak Shelf is a decorative storage block that holds up to three stacks of items and displays them in front of itself. Dark Oak Shelf is crafted from six Stripped Dark Oak Logs, and six logs yield six shelves. Dark Oak Shelf was added in Java Edition 1.21.9 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.111. Each of the three slots takes either a full stack of a stackable item or a single non-stackable item, and Dark Oak Shelf itself stacks to 64.

Using a slot of an unpowered shelf swaps its contents with the item in the player's main hand. A redstone signal merges the three slots into one: a powered Dark Oak Shelf swaps all of its contents with the three rightmost hotbar slots in a single use, two connected powered shelves swap six slots, and three swap all nine. Hoppers and droppers can fill the shelf, and a Hopper placed underneath can empty Dark Oak Shelf.

    Craft six shelves

    Place six Stripped Dark Oak Logs on the 3×3 grid of a Crafting Table in two rows of three with an empty row between them to get six Dark Oak Shelves.

    Place Dark Oak Shelf on a surface, and the front of the shelf will face the player who placed the shelf.

    Use one of the three slots while holding an item in the main hand, and the slot and the hand exchange contents.

    Power Dark Oak Shelf with redstone and use the shelf to swap all three slots with the three rightmost hotbar slots at once. Two or three powered shelves side by side swap six or nine slots.

    Read slots with a comparator

    Put a Redstone Comparator against the back of Dark Oak Shelf: an item in the left slot adds 1, the middle slot adds 2, the right slot adds 4, and the maximum is 7.

Connection order

Powered shelves connect to a neighbor on the left first, so check which shelves ended up linked before relying on a six- or nine-slot swap.
