Cherry Leaves
Pink foliage block exclusive to cherry grove biomes, producing falling pink petal particles and dropping sticks, cherry saplings, and rarely cherry leaves with Fortune.
Description
Breaking the leaves without Silk Touch drops sticks and occasionally a sapling; applying Fortune III increases the chance of sapling and stick drops. Silk Touch preserves the block for transplanting. The leaves cannot be sheared into petal items — the petal particle is visual only.
Cherry grove biomes generate in temperate mountain areas and are among the most visually distinctive biomes added in recent versions. The matching wood — log, plank, door, and trapdoor family — has a pale pink hue, making this foliage and the associated planks a cohesive palette for romantic, Japanese-garden, or spring-themed builds. The biome also contains tall grass and pink petals as a ground layer, reinforcing the floral aesthetic.
Guide
How to find and use Cherry Leaves in Minecraft
-
1
Locate a cherry grove biome
Cherry grove biomes generate in temperate mountain regions, typically at mid-to-high elevations. Look for clusters of tall cherry trees with bright pink-purple foliage and pink petals scattered on the ground. The biome was introduced in Java Edition 1.20 and Bedrock Edition 1.20.
-
2
Harvest cherry leaves with Silk Touch
Enchant a pair of shears or any tool with Silk Touch to collect cherry leaves as a placeable block. Without Silk Touch, cherry leaves drop sticks and, with some chance, a cherry sapling. Applying Fortune III to your tool further increases the chance of sapling and stick drops when breaking leaves without Silk Touch.
-
3
Transport and replant cherry saplings
If you want a cherry tree at your base, let cherry leaves decay naturally or break them without Silk Touch until a cherry sapling drops. Plant the sapling on grass or dirt in a well-lit area with at least 7 blocks of vertical clearance. Bone meal accelerates growth.
-
4
Use cherry leaves as a decorative block
Cherry leaves are favoured for spring-themed, romantic, or Japanese-garden builds because of their vibrant pink-purple colour and constant falling-petal particle effect. Place them on rooftops, arches, or as hanging canopy layers. The petal particles drift downward regardless of season and cannot be disabled in-game.

5
Combine with cherry wood for a cohesive palette
Cherry logs, planks, slabs, stairs, doors, trapdoors, and fences all share the same pale-pink hue as cherry leaves. Building an entire structure from the cherry wood family alongside cherry leaf canopies creates a visually unified aesthetic. Cherry wood is the only naturally pink wood family in vanilla Minecraft.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get Cherry Leaves in Minecraft without them disappearing?
Cherry Leaves decay if they are not connected to a cherry log within 6 blocks. To prevent decay, collect them using a tool or shears enchanted with Silk Touch. Without Silk Touch, breaking cherry leaves yields sticks and occasionally a cherry sapling instead of the leaf block itself.
What do Cherry Leaves drop when broken?
Cherry Leaves drop sticks and sometimes a cherry sapling when broken without Silk Touch. Fortune III increases the drop rate of both sticks and saplings. With Silk Touch, you receive the cherry leaf block itself. Cherry leaves do not drop any petal items — the falling petal effect is purely visual.
Where do Cherry Leaves spawn in Minecraft?
Cherry Leaves spawn exclusively on cherry trees in cherry grove biomes. Cherry grove biomes generate in temperate mountain regions and are identifiable by their vibrant pink foliage, scattered pink petals on the ground, and tall cherry trees. They were introduced in Java Edition 1.20 and Bedrock Edition 1.20.
Can you use shears on Cherry Leaves?
Yes, shears can be used to break cherry leaves quickly and silently without requiring the Silk Touch enchantment specifically on the shears. However, shears with Silk Touch do preserve the block. Unenchanted shears will cause the leaves to drop as blocks only if the shears themselves have Silk Touch; plain shears yield the same stick or sapling drops as fist-breaking.
Do Cherry Leaves emit light?
Cherry Leaves do not emit light; they have a light emission value of 0. The falling pink petal particles they produce are a purely cosmetic particle effect and do not act as a light source.
Why do Cherry Leaves emit pink particles?
Cherry Leaves in Minecraft continuously emit small pink petal particles that drift downward. This is a decorative ambient effect unique to cherry leaves among all leaf block types. The effect is always active regardless of game settings or season, and it persists on leaf blocks both in their natural biome and when placed manually in builds.
