How to obtain and keep Bubble Coral Fan in Minecraft
-
1
Find a warm ocean biome
Bubble Coral Fan grows only on coral reefs in warm ocean biomes, recognizable by the turquoise water and the lack of regular ocean mobs on the surface.
-
2
Equip a Silk Touch tool
Mine the fan with a pickaxe, axe, shovel, or hoe enchanted with Silk Touch. Without Silk Touch the fan breaks instantly but drops nothing.
-
3
Place the fan against a solid face
Bubble Coral Fan attaches to the side, top, or bottom of a block. Place it underwater so the block stays submerged from the moment it is set.
-
4
Keep water on at least one side
If Bubble Coral Fan loses contact with water on all six adjacent faces, it dries into Dead Bubble Coral Fan within seconds and cannot be revived.
-
5
Grow more with bone meal
Right-click sand or dirt underwater in a warm ocean with bone meal. Each use has a chance to spawn a new coral, including Bubble Coral Fan, making the block renewable.
In Bedrock Edition Bubble Coral Fan can also be placed outside water and will survive as long as it is adjacent to water on at least one face; in Java Edition the same rule applies. Drying is permanent — a dried Dead Bubble Coral Fan never rehydrates.

Frequently asked questions
Can you craft Bubble Coral Fan?
No. Bubble Coral Fan cannot be crafted on a crafting table. The only way to obtain the block is to mine a naturally generated fan in a warm ocean with a Silk Touch tool, or to grow a new coral with bone meal.
What happens if Bubble Coral Fan dries out?
When Bubble Coral Fan loses contact with water on all six adjacent faces, it turns grey and becomes Dead Bubble Coral Fan within seconds. Drying is permanent and the dead fan cannot be revived or rehydrated.
Is Bubble Coral Fan renewable?
Yes. Applying bone meal to sand or dirt underwater in a warm ocean biome can grow a new coral fan, including Bubble Coral Fan, so the block can be farmed indefinitely once you seed a reef.
What version of Minecraft added Bubble Coral Fan?
Bubble Coral Fan was added in Java Edition 1.13 (snapshot 18w11a) and Bedrock Edition 1.4.0 (beta 1.2.14.2) as part of the Update Aquatic.
What tool do you need to mine Bubble Coral Fan?
Any tool breaks Bubble Coral Fan instantly, but the block drops only when mined with a Silk Touch enchanted pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe, or sword. Without Silk Touch the fan disappears and drops nothing.
Is Bubble Coral Fan blast resistant?
No. Bubble Coral Fan has a blast resistance of 0 and a hardness of 0, so a creeper explosion, TNT, or any nearby blast destroys the block instantly.
