Description

Bat Spawn Egg is a Creative-only item that instantly spawns one bat, the small passive mob added in Minecraft 1.4.2 (the Pretty Scary Update). Click any block face to release a bat with 6 health points (3 hearts) that flies in erratic loops, squeaks, and hangs upside down from solid blocks above it. Bats are harmless: they never attack, cannot be bred or tamed, and drop nothing when killed. In survival you cannot obtain this egg — bats spawn naturally in dark caves below sea level at light level 3 or lower, in groups of up to eight. The spawn egg lets builders, map makers, and command users place bats on demand for cave ambience, Halloween scenes, or jungle and spooky decoration. It works the same in Java Edition and Bedrock Edition, where it appears in the Creative inventory or comes from the /give command. Use it to add living atmosphere to caverns and abandoned mineshafts without waiting for natural spawns.

How to use a Bat Spawn Egg in Minecraft

    Get the spawn egg

    Switch to Creative mode and search 'Bat Spawn Egg' in the inventory, or run /give @s minecraft:bat_spawn_egg to obtain one in any mode.

    Aim at a block

    Point the crosshair at the block face where you want the bat to appear; the spawn egg places the mob on the targeted side.

    Right-click to spawn

    Right-click (or tap) to release one bat. Repeat to create a small colony for cave or Halloween ambience.

    Contain it if needed

    Bats fly randomly and drift away, so place them inside an enclosed cave or glass room if you want them to stay in your build.

Survival note

You cannot get a Bat Spawn Egg in survival without commands. Instead, bats spawn naturally in dark caves below sea level at light level 3 or lower.
