Description

Bamboo Trapdoor is a wooden hatch that opens and closes with a right-click, so no redstone is needed to use it as a door. A crafting table turns 6 Bamboo Planks, filling two adjacent rows of the grid, into 2 Bamboo Trapdoors. Bamboo Trapdoor has hardness 3 and blast resistance 3 (how well a block survives explosions), and any tool can break it, although an axe is the fastest. Bamboo Trapdoor has been available without an experimental setting since Java Edition 1.20 and Bedrock Edition 1.20.0.

Bamboo Trapdoor is 3/16 of a block thick in Java Edition and fills the top or the bottom half of its block space, depending on where the player places it. Bamboo Trapdoor stays in place even when the block it was attached to is moved, removed, or destroyed. Redstone power opens Bamboo Trapdoor the moment the signal arrives, and every toggle plays a sound unique to bamboo wood.

How to use a Bamboo Trapdoor in Minecraft

    Craft two trapdoors

    Fill two adjacent rows of a crafting table grid with 6 Bamboo Planks, 3 per row. The crafting table returns 2 Bamboo Trapdoors.

    Place it on the right half

    Right-click the face of a block while aiming at its upper half to attach Bamboo Trapdoor to the top, or at its lower half to attach it to the bottom. A Bamboo Trapdoor on the upper half opens downward, and one on the lower half opens upward.

    Open and close

    Right-click Bamboo Trapdoor to toggle it. An adjacent active power component, such as a redstone torch, opens Bamboo Trapdoor as well.

    Build a ladder hatch

    In Java Edition, open Bamboo Trapdoor directly above a Ladder on the same side of the wall. Players then climb through Bamboo Trapdoor as if it were another Ladder.
