Description

Azalea Leaves form the canopy of azalea trees that generate on the surface above lush caves in Minecraft. The plain leaves have no pink blossoms, unlike Flowering Azalea Leaves. Players can collect Azalea Leaves with shears or a Silk Touch tool; breaking the foliage normally can drop azalea bushes and sticks. Naturally generated azalea trees stand above rooted dirt that leads downward toward the lush cave, so the tree is a useful exploration marker rather than proof that every placed azalea tree has a cave beneath it.

Azalea Leaves work well in garden hedges, overgrown ruins, greenhouse roofs, and custom trees because their green texture stays visually distinct from common oak foliage. Player-grown azalea trees come from applying bone meal to an azalea or flowering azalea bush on dirt-type blocks, but growing a tree does not create a lush cave. Azalea Leaves decay when no longer supported by nearby wood unless the foliage was placed by a player, so builders should harvest the canopy before removing the oak logs.

Lush Cave Guide

How to find and collect Azalea Leaves in Minecraft

  1. 1

    Find a surface azalea tree

Search the surface for an azalea tree, which naturally generates above a lush cave and has oak logs with azalea foliage.

  2. 2

    Follow the rooted dirt safely

Dig a staircase beside the rooted dirt beneath the natural tree instead of mining straight down into an unknown cave.

  3. 3

    Harvest the canopy

Use shears or a Silk Touch tool on Azalea Leaves to collect the leaf blocks before removing the supporting oak logs.

  4. 4

    Grow more decorative trees

Place an azalea or flowering azalea bush on suitable ground and apply bone meal; the new tree supplies more foliage but creates no lush cave.

Natural marker only

Only naturally generated surface azalea trees indicate a lush cave below. A player-grown azalea tree does not generate a cave.

Frequently asked questions

Do Azalea Leaves mark a lush cave?

A naturally generated surface azalea tree is a strong marker for a lush cave below. A player-grown tree does not create or guarantee a lush cave.

How do players collect Azalea Leaves?

Azalea Leaves are collected with shears or a tool enchanted with Silk Touch. Normal breaking can instead produce azalea bushes or sticks.

Are Azalea Leaves the same as Flowering Azalea Leaves?

No. Azalea Leaves are plain green foliage, while Flowering Azalea Leaves contain visible pink blossoms.

Do Azalea Leaves decay?

Naturally generated Azalea Leaves decay after losing support from nearby wood. Leaves placed by a player remain persistent.
