-
1
Find trail ruins
Look for trail ruins in most overworld biomes — ancient buried structures identifiable by patches of cobblestone, gravel, terracotta, and suspicious sand protruding from the ground surface.
-
2
Craft a brush
Craft a brush using 1 feather on top, 1 copper ingot in the middle, and 1 stick on the bottom, arranged vertically in a crafting grid.
-
3

Equip the brush and right-click each suspicious sand block in the ruins. Each block yields exactly one item — a pottery sherd or another archaeology drop — then crumbles away. Arms Up Pottery Sherd can appear in any suspicious block at the site.

Use the sherd to craft a decorated pot
Place 4 pottery sherds of any combination in a 2×2 crafting grid to produce a decorated pot. Each sherd determines the motif on one face of the pot, so you can mix and match any four patterns.
Trail ruins and pottery sherds were added in Minecraft Java Edition 1.20 (Trails & Tales, 2023). Arms Up Pottery Sherd is available in both Java and Bedrock Edition.
