In Minecraft, experience (XP) drops as green orbs and fills your level bar. Levels are spent on enchanting, anvil work and renaming. Reaching level 30 — the cap for the best enchants — takes exactly 1,395 total XP. The experience formula has three pieces, and each enchanting-table slot really costs only 1/2/3 levels plus the same amount of lapis lazuli.
This guide covers the cumulative-XP and per-level formulas, worked examples (level 30 = 1,395 XP, level 16 → 17 = 42 XP), the truth about enchant cost, where XP comes from, and how the calculator does all of it and writes the /xp command for you.
